HEADING NORTH……..

We left Hondo Friday morning and drove to Georgetown. Texas….didn’t want to overdo the first day.

Got up Saturday morning and headed to Thackerville, Oklahoma to the Winstar Casino.  Those of you that know Jim know that we always have to make a “casino” stop on our way to and from home.  In the past, it has always been Tunica, Mississippi.  But, this fall, Jim discovered the Winstar.  We had planned on staying at the casino RV Park but, after calling for reservations, we found out that they had raised their rates to $45.00 per night…….a little out of our price range.  So, there was a Passport America park just down the road…….Red River 5 Star RV Resort…….now don’t get to excited…..this was definitely not a 5 star resort and, if you don’t mind fire ants and your RV site full of “stickers” it was okay for $15.00 per night.  We got set up and Jim headed over to the casino while I stayed back and enjoyed the “5 star amenities” of the resort!  Jim came back around 4 p.m. to pick me up for dinner.  We had a very nice Tex-Mex dinner at the El Finex in the casino and I deposited my $20.00 and Jim took me back home and went back to the casino to continue making his deposits…..

The next part of our trip was to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to visit very dear friends Bob and BJ.  We met them our first year on the road and have kept in touch through the years.  A number of years ago they came off the road and bought a very lovely place in Tahlequah.  We played “catch-up” Sunday afternoon and Monday went on a picnic to Honor Heights Park which was just beautiful.

We finished our picnic and headed home just before the storm front came through.  Thank you again Bob and BJ for a lovely visit.  We so enjoy your company……..

Today was a long day….460 miles….but we made it into Illinois and stopped at a little campground in Litchfield.   Tomorrow we will be in Woodstock…….we are looking forward to seeing our kids and grandsons……it’s going to be a great summer.

Take care…..love to all……

DAY TRIP

I got up this morning and did a little yard work……..I had a couple buckets full of stone delivered and spread it around some bushes we have along our back fence line.  It looks much better…..and then I decided that I had done enough yard work since arriving here a couple weeks ago and it was time for a “day trip”.  So I came in, told Jim to find us someplace to go, jumped in the shower and off we went.

We drove up through Bandera and took highway 16 towards Kerrville and the Texas hill country.  It was a beautiful drive along this hilly and curvy road.  We arrived in Kerrville and naturally it was time for lunch.  So, we stopped at the Billy Gene Restaurant along the Guadalupe river and had a very nice lunch

After lunch we started back to Hondo on highway 173 which took us through Camp Verde.  Camp Verde was an Army facility established in 1856.  It was the headquarters for the U.S. Camel Corps……yes, I did say CAMEL.  They imported them in 1856-57 using them with some success.  Unfortunately, they did not get along well with the Army horses and mules which would run out of fear when they smelled the camels.  So, now the facility is a general store and restaurant.

One thing you notice while driving around is that most all the ranches have some sort of gate.  Some are very plain but then you have some that are quite elaborate

Finally we drove by what is left of this church which is just down the street from our “house”
