MT. Rainier

This is out of sequence, as we did this before the gorge.

Rainier is among the tallest mountains in the lower 48 at about 14,450 foot. What makes it stand out from the Colorado 14's is that it is all alone and covered with many glaciers. It is a spectacular site and is visible from about 100 miles or so away. We could see it from Yakima when we were there and you can see it from Seattle.

It is, like several other mountains in the west, an active volcano! If it ever blows, and it blows to the west, Seattle is in big trouble!

Again it is hard to describe the beauty of this area and I hope that these few pictures will give you an idea of its beauty.

Mt. Rainier 006

They say the mountain makes its own weather, and today she decided to wear a cap.

Mt. Rainier 017 this is an area where the spring thaw runs thru! Also a couple of years ago there was a major rain downfall that caused massive damage to the park and roads.
