Time for an update (Pendleton, OR)

The truck is running fine. Enough on that.

Coming across from Colorado we stopped in Pendleton Oregon and visited underground Pendleton on a tour that cost $15 a person. Well worth the money, it was an hour and a half tour underground in the basements of Pendleton. There were a lot of Chinese in Pendleton and they were not allowed on the streets after a certain hour of the day, so they lived and played underground. They had sleeping areas, opium dens, speak easy’s, a meat market, ice cream parlor, bordellos, bars and other things. The uptown area of Pendleton is riddled with tunnels.

The tour also included an above ground tour of one of the bordellos. It was boarded up in the 50’s because some new minister came to town and got a list of names of all of the local important people who frequented the numerous whore houses and threatened them with exposure it they did not close them down……

From Pendleton we moved on to Yakima, WA to visit with old friends Abel, Shari, Terri and Sid, Doug, Teresa, and Amy who drove from Spokane to spend the weekend with us. I also had an appointment to have my hearing aids updated. We stayed a week at a local campground, before moving on to Abel’s “back 40” for another week while the truck was being worked on.

It was sad to say goodby to everyone, but time to move on.
