Boy, we are moving right along now!!!
We stayed in Yakima too long and the weather turned bad on us. We knew the drive to ST. Helens was going to be disappointing, but Jim and Bobbie had never seen it, so we did about a 175 mile round trip to the mountain.
When she blew her top it was a very spectacular sight with ash shooting up about 15 miles into the air before settling down over the northwest. Yakima is about a 100 miles as the crow flys and the mountain blew her top in that direction. Yakima had 4-6 inches of ash!!!
We did not get to see the upper part of the mountain because of the cloud cover. They say she has had several minor eruptions since the big blow and grows about a pickup truck larger every day.
The area of the major mud flows is starting to recover now after 30 or so years. When Linda and I were here several years ago there was still a lot of barren earth. Now it is starting to green up again. Mother nature is a very, very powerful woman......remember.....don't mess with mother nature.
sorry, but this is the mountain…kind of disappointing is it not?
You can go on line to find better pictures. I was surprised that we did not take more, but, again, we have seen it before in all of its splendor.
love to all of ya
Jim and Linda
